This episode shows the aftermath of the night of Nora Allen's murder from Eobard Thawne's point of view.
- A full explanation of the night of Nora's murder and the events that preceded it will only be revealed in "A New World, Part One".
This episode reveals that the current timeline of Earth-1, which was already altered due to Nora Allen's death, completely diverged from the original timeline as a consequence of Thawne stealing Wells' life.
- In the original timeline, Harrison Wells and his wife created the S.T.A.R. Labs and activated the particle accelerator in 2020.
- The events of "The Exorcism of Nash Wells" will reveal that Thawne stealing Wells' appearance somehow turned him into a Multiversal counterpart of Harrison Wells.

The 1990 Flash series theme can be heard multiple times in the episode.
James Jesse's pictures from his trials in the 90s are taken from the 1990 Flash episode, "Trial of the Trickster".
Thawne saying to Wells that his wife "has been dead for centuries" mirrors the same words that he told Cisco Ramon before killing him in the erased timeline from "Out of Time".
The scene of Jesse revealing to Axel that "he's his father" is obviously a reference to Darth Vader telling the same thing to Luke Skywalker, which was portrayed by Mark Hamill, in the Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back.
