Synopsis for "Best-Laid Plans"
Wally and Linda discuss the mystery of how she got powers, and Wallace pops in to meet up with Wally for their patrol. He accidentally lets slip that he found out about Linda's speed before Wally did and quickly darts out again to avoid the awkward conversation. When Wally asks her why she didn't tell him about her speed she replies that she had wanted to tell him when they had a moment alone and they never seem to be able to have those any more. Linda leaves to meet with her publisher, and while she is gone Wally reads the draft of her book, a romance novel titled "Best-Laid Plans".
The heroine of "Best-Laid Plans" is Beth Hunter, an obvious surrogate for Linda herself. Beth is an aspiring writer who leads a mundane life and makes nothing but safe choices until one day she is saved from an alien monster by Billy East; a dashing, redheaded space adventurer and thinly veiled analogue for Wally. Billy invites Beth to come with him and she takes her first risk and agrees. From this chance meeting Beth is whisked off on a romantic adventure to save the universe from a black hole created by the evil Ka-Dabra.
After finishing the book Wally surprises Linda and takes her on an impromptu trip to Italy, echoing Billy's words when he invites her to come with him. In Rome, Wally tells Linda that she is his hero, and he will always love her. Wally asks Linda what she would like to do next and she suggests they go for gelato, saying she is craving sea salted caramel. Wally remembers that she wanted it constantly when she was pregnant with the twins and they simultaneously realise that she may be pregnant again.

Trivia
- Wally tells Linda she should call herself Lightspeed and wear a white and yellow costume. These are references to Lightspeed, Linda's Earth 32 counterpart as well as an amalgam between Linda and Godspeed, who Wally met in Flash Forward #4.
- The criminal "Mal Feloni" from Linda's novel is a clear reference to Sal Maroni.
- The bridge of the S.S. Snaglebargle strongly resembles the USS Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
