Synopsis for "Captain Cold Blows His Cool"
A group of convicts successfully escapes from the Central State Penitentiary. The prisoners have somehow undergone a youthful rejuvenation thanks to Captain Cold and his Freeze ray gun. The evil doers gather together in Captain Cold’s Central City hideout. They notice that the hideout is adorned with portraits of an old glamour queen by the name of Laura Lamont. Captain Cold implies that he has the power to grant the gift of youthfulness and that he intends to use it to make Lamont young again. The newly formed gang commences to plan a series of robberies. In the meantime, Cold disguises himself as a lawyer named JJ Pendergast. He had previously read an article on Laura Lamont that was written by Iris Allen West. Cold figures that Iris can lead him to Laura Lamont’s hidden sanctuary where she has remained in seclusion for years. He visits Iris while in disguise and pretends to have business dealings with Lamont. Iris states that she cannot divulge Lamonts whereabouts but she will be glad to relay any message. Cold waits out in his car while Iris heads out to meet with Lamont. Flash notices that the shady lawyer is following Iris so he sets out to follow them. In the meantime he inadvertently runs into newly rejuvenated members of Colds new prison gang. He catches them in the act of committing crimes and quickly subdues them. He then seeks out Captain Cold himself and finds him in a warehouse stealing mink furs. Cold shoots the Flash with his absolute zero freezing gang which not only freezes the Flash but actually causes him to break into pieces. Cold gathers the pieces together and frames them into a portrait to simulate a work of art. He then leaves the scene of the crime and visits Lamont a small cottage. He informs Lamont that he intends to wed her and that he can bestow her with the gift of youthfulness. He shoots Lamont with his freeze ray gun and turns her into a beautiful youthful woman. Lamont is stunned especially since she never agreed to marry Captain Cold. Cold announces that intends to phone the justice of the peace to perform the wedding ceremony but he unexpectedly phones the villain Heat Wave. He invites Heat Wave to come over to see what he has done to the Flash. Heat Wave immediately becomes jealous and fires his heat gun at the Flash portrait. The heat from the gun rejuvenates the Flash and brings him back to reality in one piece. Flash then proceeds to subdue Heat Wave and Captain Cold. The end of the story finds Iris West visiting with Laura Lamont. She is in the process of applying makeup to make herself look old again. She announces that she intends to spend the rest of her life as an old woman. Iris and Barry later visit a local cinema where they surprisingly find Laura Lamont working at the ticket counter. She is content to spend the rest of her life in obscurity.
