Flash attempts to stop a burglary but bungles the attempt with his sluggish movements. He suffers further embarrassment when the burglar he was attempting to capture is tackled by a group of young bystanders. A policeman on the scene witnesses the event and advises Flash to stop playing cops. Flash seems to be in a weakened state and attempts to board a bus home but he lacks he required fare and gets kicked off. The scene is witnessed by Iris as she flashbacks to how it all came to this. She thinks back to the previous Sunday when Flash had an interview on the Davis Goodkinds tv talk show. He is being interviewed along with a Doctor Hollister. Flash rushes out to the interview but later that evening Iris receives a phone call informing her that Flash had died. She arrives at the mortuary and finds Dr Hollister there dressed in a Flash costume. He describes the time he last saw Flash alive as they were being interviewed on Tv. Hollister had announced that he was working on a serum that places life on suspended animation. His purpose is to place humans with incurable diseases in hibernation to be awakened centuries later when science will have a cure for them. The interview is witnessed by a group of criminals that confront Hollister at his lab demanding the formula for their crime purposes. Flash rushes into the lab to rescue Hollister but gets splashed in the face with the serum. He attempts to subdue the criminals but then falls into a hibernation. Flash is examined by a doctor and pronounced dead. Hollister feels guilty about causing the death. He wanders into the Flash museum and dons one of his costumes to honor his memory. We then realize that the Flash at the beginning of the story was really Hollister in costume and that explains his miserable performance as a crimefighter. Hollister then abducts Flashes body from the Mausoleum and takes it back to his lab. He is then approached by the criminals who had previously tried to take his serum. They have returned to finish the job. A bolt of lighting suddenly comes down through the window and strikes Flashes body. Flash is revived and he quickly subdues the criminals. He then rushes home to kiss his wife.

Synopsis for "The Explosive Heart of America"

Barry Allen gets a sudden visit from Colonel K of the IN-T agency. The Colonel asks Barry to deliver a message to the Flash. He wants the Flash to deactivate a weapon known as the Y-missile. The missile has been developed by an enemy country for the purpose of using it against the United States. He gives Barry a location map but he is confused as to why he is giving the map to him. The agent then presses the ring on Barry’s finger and the Flash costume pops out. The Colonel then declares the the fastest man on earth will find a way. Flash uses the map and races across the ocean into an unspecified communist country which resembles China. He comes across a boy who recognizes the hero. The boy states that he was looking for one of his lost sheep by a mountainside but he was fired upon. Flash suspects that he must be close to the missile base if it is being guarded that closely. He then vibrates his way into the mountain and discovers a vast laboratory with the missile at its center. As soon as he enters he notices that the missile starts to glow with an erie yellow light. The roof slides open and the missile launches into the sky. Flash climbs aboard the missile as it heads towards the US. He notices that it is coming down fast and heading towards a giant X on the ground. He suspects that the missile is being guided so he climbs down before the missile strikes and gets rid of the marker on the ground. The missile then shrinks and disappears. Flash then heads back to his lab where he discovers a congratulatory note from Colonel K written on his calendar.
