Synopsis for "Turnabout Is Deadly Play"
The Creeper hauls himself out of the river, his bullet wounds already healing thanks to the serum that gives him his abilities. He returns to the TV studio where he sees his boss arguing with Dr. Hartnell, the man running a drug clinic whom Ryder is about to interview. Harrigan is unhappy that Hartnell's treatments do not seem to be benefiting his son Jamie. Afterwards, the Creeper goes to visit Dr. Baker, whose name was on an envelope full of money that Thumbs Tamblin was carrying. Assuming that Tamblin had collected an extortion payment from the doctor, he returns it and promises to track down the people who took it, then leaves before Baker can say anything. In fact, Tamblin had delivered the payment to the doctor, who now phones Winterborn to complain. The gang leader assures him that the Creeper knows nothing of any link between them but decides that Baker must be eliminated to prevent any trail back to himself. He sends Tamblin to deal with things, but Jack Ryder is also on his way to Baker's office to interview him. As he approaches, he hears a gunshot so bursts in as the Creeper to find Baker wounded but alive. Tamblin escapes while the Creeper is tending to the doctor, who then finds blank prescription forms signed by Baker, and realises the truth of the situation. Having learned of the botched hit, Winterborn now sends his men after Tamblin, whom they track down to a cheap hotel. The Creeper has also found him and prevents the gunmen killing him. He hands Tamblin over to the police, but they turn out to be working for Winterborn and shoot him dead. Meanwhile Jamie Harrigan is arrested for trying to pass one of Baker's fake prescriptions.
