Synopsis for "Beacon of Hate"

A mysterious glaive has crash-landed in the middle of Central City. Mister Terrific wants to take it to his lab for further study but neither he or the Flash can move it, so they call Superman for help. However, even the Man of Steel is unable to life the glaive, and is uncharacteristically angered by this. Terrific rudely orders Wally to go to Terrifictech and get to work, and Superman brusquely flies off. Confused by this unusually irritable behaviour from the two heroes, Wally runs to work, stopping off at home to check in on Linda. However, he finds that his wife is also extremely aggravated at him over a minor annoyance.

At Terrifictech, Wally finds his three coworkers in a vicious argument that almost gets violent, but when he tries to calm them down, they turn on him, angry that Holt allows him to come and go as he pleases. Wally gets a crime alert and has to leave, and after he departs both Stevie and Thomas quit and storm out. Wally runs to the location of the alert, only to find it was a trap set by Mister Terrific, who wants to kill him and harness the Speed Force energy within him. Holt has programmed the T-Spheres to predict Wally's super-fast movements but Wally manages to avoid them by burrowing underground and knocks Terrific out. Suddenly the Trickster appears and grabs the glaive, and is even able to lift it slightly before Wally stops him.

An army of villains appears, each trying to reach the glaive. Wally defeats them all by tricking them into attacking each other and the last one, Rainbow Raider, is hit by a civilian's car when he tries to run for the glaive. Wally sees the people of the city attacking each other and realises the glaive is responsible. He tries to vibrate it out of the ground but only succeeds in causing an earthquake. He runs back to Terrifictech and steals some advanced shielding and builds a sphere around the glaive. This temporarily reverses the effect and the villains all depart, but darkness builds up within the shield and explodes outwards, spreading hatred and anger throughout the city.

Starbreaker drops from the sky and claims the glaive, but to his horror the darkness within it, revealed to be Eclipso, possesses him. Eclipso had used to glaive to lure in someone weak-willed but power hungry to possess. When Superman resisted him despite the anger Eclipso awoke in him, he telepathically sent out waves of hatred to corrupt others, which Wally alone was immune to due to his new "zen" attitude following his journey through time and space. Now in control of Starbreaker's body, Eclipso simply flies away, deeming Wally beneath his notice.

Wally begins cleaning up the destruction, but an ankh-shaped portal appears and a ragged Dr. Fate pulls him though, telling him the fate of the universe is in his hands.
