- I guess I've always known it's in there, deep down. But not like this. An infinite gulf of terrible energy is building, like a levee about to burst.

Synopsis for "Issue Five: Top Priority"
Jai West is outside the principal's office, where he gets sent every day due to mishaps with his powers that he is finding increasingly difficult to control. He stews on his frustration and feelings of inadequacy, getting angrier. Energy starts to crackle around his right arm and he tries to calm himself down but the energy builds and his arm swells up. A blob of flesh bursts from his arm and forms into a small humanoid. A shadowy figure appears in the hallway and asks for Jai, but he is startled and automatically teleports away.
Jai appears in the park where Wally and his coworkers are investigating the anomaly that appeared above the statue of Barry Allen. Jai sneaks closer while trying to remain unseen and hears them discuss how realities are being squeezed together with potentially devastating consequences. He is startled by "The Calculator", a disembodied brain and eyes in a box, and teleports back to the school, something he's never been able to do before. The stranger tells him that he was able to come back because of the blob figure, and his teleportation works via quantum entanglement. Jai panics and calls for help, and the stranger shoots a small burst of energy from his gloves into Jai, which results in over a dozen of the creatures splitting off from him. The stranger tells Jai that he knows he is having a difficult time and that his mental health is a matter of professional concern to him. Jai has a panic attack and teleports away again.
Jai appears at Iron Heights in the observation room next to an interrogation room where Wally is talking to Gorilla Grodd. Wally demands to know what Grodd was doing, since destroying the world isn't his style; but Grodd smells Jai in the next room and breaks free, planning to kill his enemy's child. Jai considers fighting Grodd, knowing that he could easily win, but instead uses the intercom to ask Grodd why he chose to become a supervillain. Grodd says that no-one has ever asked that before and replies that it is his responsibility to protect and serve his "troop" and do whatever he can to make the world better for his children.
Jai teleports back to school and the stranger asks if he is ready to listen, which Jai says he is. The stranger introduces himself as "Inspector Pilgrim" and tells Jai that he has a unique connection to the Speed Force; while other speedsters tap into the Force and use it for their powers, Jai is able to reshape it instinctively, which is why his powers are so radically different. Pilgrim reveals that Jai teleports by using quantum wormholes to other conduits, and he could go to any of them, not just Wally. He also tells him that he can use the figures, which he calls "animated homoculi", to return to any point he leaves them in. Pilgrim explains that Jai only teleports to Wally because he is closest, but could theoretically go to any Speed Force user in time and space. Jai doesn;t think he can do it, but Pilgrim tells him to just relax and act on instinct. Jai rapidly teleports around the city, to first Irey, then Barry and Wade, before returning to the park.
In the park, Wally is arguing with Impulse, who accuses him of not looking for Max Mercury. Wally says that he can't get back to the dimension where he left Max and Impulse declares that he is going to Timepoint to ask Gold Beetle for help. He runs off before Wally can stop him. Wally tells Jai to come out from where he is hiding and Jai warns Wally that he has been constantly sensing that Wally is in danger for some time now. Jai apologises, believing that him screwing up is a distraction but Wally tells Jai that he will always be proud of him, although Jai doesn't believe him.
Mister Terrific and the scientists activate a machine around the anomaly which should stabilise it, but the Stillness suddenly teleport in and destroy it. The Stillness say that they must see what the anomaly lures to Earth regardless of the danger. Wally runs at them but the easily stop him and then notice Jai. They claim that he is a "shaper" and blast him with energy, splitting his body into dozens of homonculi. Enraged, Wally summons up his full energy and blasts the Stillness, seemingly destroying them and the anomaly, leaving nothing but a semitransparent tentacle sticking out of the ground. Jai reassembles himself and gets Wally to stop before he causes any more damage. He admits to Wally that he doesn't want to be a superhero. Wally is quiet for a moment and then tells him that he doesn't have to be a hero if he doesn't want to, then disappears to the Gallery of Moments.
Jai returns to school and tells Inspector Pilgrim what happened. Pilgrim tells Jai that Wally isn't disappointed and will love him no matter what; but Jai replies that he knows, because Wally proved that he would destroy the world for him.
