The Hold is a secret bank which serves Blüdhaven's top tier criminals.
History
Centuries ago, when the island of Bludhaven was part of the Dutch colony New Netherland, a Kraken lurked in the seas around the island, destroying any ships that passed its way and leaving the people on the island stranded. Hendrik Blüd went out alone in his whaling ship and slew the beast with a harpoon. For his heroism, the townspeople renamed the town Blüdhaven in his honour. His victory over the monster is commemorated by a huge statue in Bludhaven Park.
People trusted him and his crew to guard their greatest treasure, making them wealthy and influential. They evolved into a secret society known as The Crew of the Crossed Keys, and Captain Blüd's ship became The Hold, a secret bank serving the rich and powerful. To this day it is lead by members of the Blüd family, who take the title Captain Blüd. The current Captain Blüd is Nightwing's ex-girlfriend Bea Bennett.
The Hold stores any goods or money entrusted to them by their clients on Hendrik's old whaling ship located in an underground cavern, accessed by a seemingly innocuous shack on the docks. The Hold is staffed only by a clerk known as the "Quartermaster" and a single guard known as the "Master of Arms", and their client's property is stored in simple lockers. This is because the Hold are not afraid of being robbed and see no point in elaborate security measures; their reputation is sufficient to deter thieves. Anyone foolish enough to actually try and steal from them will be quickly hunted down and killed by an army of mercenaries.
