Part of I.O's superhuman fabrication initiative Project: Genesis, the "Kindred" are one of many thought to've been terminated experimental practices conceived using modified Gen-Factor serum on live test animals.
History
Some decades prior to the discovery of the superpowered being amongst the human populace. The clandestine government sponsored organization Internal Operations would privately conduct a litany of theoretical practices directed towards creating its own superhuman task forces under the direct beck & call of American interest. One such branch of said same project involved using modified gen-active formula to create an evolutionary bio booster mutagen called the Genesis Serum, which had the effect of rapidly uplifting and/or augmenting anyone who ingested it into a higher version of themselves.
When the government caught wind of the inhumane experiments conducted under their charter, the heads of state ordered the project to be terminated. Labs scuttled, research material burned, scorched earth with salted soil so that none would ever be aware of I.O.'s unholy works. The island itself was believed to've been sterilized of mutant life, along with a member of Team 7 whom was listed K.I.A while on mission. But in the same vein of Caballito island remaining intact after the raid, so too did their wayward lab animals survive the decimation of their testing ground turned island home. With a great many amongst the accidentally made specimens nursing an envenomed grudged against their creators and would-be killers.
