The Maelstrom is an Atlantean trans-dimensional portal system.

History

A long since forgotten Atlantis crafted device which enabled its creators to exploit space-time deviations to allow them transport over vast distances and even to other planes of existence. The system of gates ran most the world along The Atlantic to harness a honeycomb of distorted Time and Space, through it they had spread the confines of their borders far and wide even creating new exit points for their kingdom to enter and exit from at will.

But the portals could only be accessed by those who wielded one of their techno-mystical items, namely either a royal scepter of Atlantean rule or an Elders' Key. The destinations of the Maelstrom were preset using stone tablets depicting where it was the user wished to go. Each of which had to be placed within an archway alter to which the desired local could be accessed, transition to the desired area would be impossible if said tablet were damaged or destroyed in anyway.

  • Atlantis Tablet: Sets the destination for the capitol of Atlantean society, before it sank beneath the sea.
  • Maelstrom Tablet: This was the destination marker that would take the user to the Pacifica dimension warp point before it was either destroyed or taken by Atlanna
  • Katangala Tablet: Opens up to a way point directly into an older area of Gorilla City itself.
  • Outpost Tablet: Connecting to a sunken Atlantean checkpoint which is now flooded off the coast of Polynesia.
