The Marvel Family #68 is an issue of the series The Marvel Family (Volume 1) with a cover date of February, 1952.

Synopsis for The Marvel Family: "The Marvel Family Battles the Capture of the Universe"

The Sivanas are assembling another deadly weapon, but the kids ask what the point is when the Marvels always stop them. This prompts the pestilential patriarch to suggest that instead of conquering Earth and then the universe, they conquer the Rock of Eternity and start from there. They pile into their rocket ship and arrive at the rock. They attempt to destroy Shazam with some of their scientific arsenal, but he explains his magic robes protect him from all harm. He also summons the Marvels through astral projection. Realizing their enemies are attacking, the Sivanas drop a bomb on Shazam's castle.

The Sivanas escape throughout time to divert the Marvels: Georgia incites a pack of mastodons to attack a village of cavemen forcing Mary to save them, Jr. starts planets bumping into each other to keep Marvel Jr. busy, and Sivana and Cap themselves pass partway into another dimension where they're just ghosts to everyone around them. After shaking the Marvels, the Sivanas return to the Rock of Eternity with a new plan: they use motorized fans to blow Shazam's magic robe off. When the Marvels catch up, Sivana confidently confronts them, expecting to be invincible in Shazam's robe. He takes the full force of Cap's punch, only now realizing that the robe only protects its wearer from evil, not good. However he quickly figures out that even if it doesn't protect him, it can't protect Shazam now either, and he warns the Marvels into backing off by threatening to kill the wizard.

The Marvels try to launch a sneak attack on their enemies, but the Sivanas have found a supply of magic lightning bolts and use those to chase the heroes away (since Shazam's being held captive and can't answer their magic words if they're changed back). Mary and Junior are chased right off the edge of the universe into infinity, from which even they can't escape. Meanwhile, Cap escapes Sivana by diving into a star. He sneaks back and manages to yank the magic robe away and give it back to Shazam, who magically guides the other Marvels back to the Rock. Sivana holds the heroes off with a bomb he'd hidden in case things went south, content to destroy the universe by blowing up the Rock if it means finally defeating the Marvels. Except he gloats too much and doesn't notice Cap tipping Shazam's throne over to knock him out.

  • This issue changes the established canon that Zeus, King of the Gods, is the one who creates and throws the Magic Lightning used to empower the Marvel Family, though it could be now presumed that Shazam creates the Lightning and delegates Zeus to throwing it for him.
