Synopsis for "Futures End - Chapter 44"

At Terrifitech, Michael Holt drops the firewalls on his servers in order to allow Ray Palmer to travel through his network at microscopic size, and emerge in his office. Mister Terrific and Batman had called him, because they believe that he is the only one who can help them - and time is limited.

Meanwhile, with New York City suspended in a dome above the surface of the Earth, Lois Lane marvels at just what is happening - and wonders how it can be stopped. Brainiac is manually piloting the stolen city up to the mother ship in Earth's orbit. That act, it determines, could result in acceptably catastrophic loss of human life, which worries Lois greatly. New York's only hope is that Superman and the Justice League can find a way to stop Brainiac.

Superman himself decides to face Brainiac head-on, leaving the League to take care of civilians. Spotting him, Jason Rusch suggests that he and Madison Payne should handle keeping the buildings standing as Firestorm. Teaming with Doctor Polaris, they help hold up the buildings, and then seal cracks in the foundations by melting the metal slightly.

Meanwhile, Terry McGinnis' need to prevent his own future's end seems insignificant in comparison to what's going on in New York, as far as Tim Drake is concerned. Terry explains that what's happening to New York is just the start of that future's being set in motion. The future is in peril unless he - and any who will help him - can set things right. Despite his concerns about the plight of New York, Tim agrees to help. Unseen by them, the hybrid cyborg of Batman and The Joker spots Terry and re-targets him.

Ray Palmer needs more power to perform the task that Bamtan and Mister Terrifich have asked of him, so Michael allows him access to the Terrifitech servers as well. Ray responds that it will take more than even that. There is no operating system on the planet that could run the program he's written. Uncomfortably, Batman responds that there is - Brother Eye.

Superman, meanwhile resists Brainiac's attacks on him by sheer force of will, and lands a powerful punch, knocking it to the ground. As Brainiac recovers, Ray Palmer leads a swarm of uSpheres powered by the Brother Eye program in an attack on him. With Brainiac's defences confused, Ray uses the program he wrote to shrink him. Unfortunately, the shut-down of his device causes New York City to start dropping back toward the Earth.

Hurriedly, Superman crashes through the ground to come out the bottom of the dome, without running into the force-field preventing escape. He takes the weight of the entire city on his back, and guides it to safety.

Ray, meanwhile, gathers the tiny Brainiac up into his hand, and traps him in a uSphere, calling back to Batman and Michael to congratulate them on helping to save the day. They know, however, that the threat of Brother Eye remains.
