Synopsis for "Here There Be Dragons"

At the St. Clair Museum of Antiquities in San Francisco, the godstone, above a huge stone archway, has been energized and the Power Company is being severely buffeted by a continuous blast of energy from within. The blast subsides and a powerful-looking being calling himself the imperial Dragoneer arrives astride a gigantic dragon. He determines that the Power Company are not acolytes of the Eternal Shadow, his master, whose goal now would be to add this new realm, Earth, to his dominions. The Dragoneer adds the soul of his Dragon, Fireheart, to his staff and attacks the team with furious power. As Strike Force skulks away, the Power Company seem disorganized, as some advance to attack and others try to retreat and regroup. Skyrocket, though on her initial trial mission, decides to take over leadership and direct the action against the alien pair. Through skillful tactics, they separate warrior from dragon and manage to surprise him by offering to talk with him to see what has to be done to get him to return peacefully to his realm. Just as the situation seems to improve, Strike Force launches an attack with Skyrocket as its target, such that she loses control over the team. In the ensuing confusion, Dragoneer and Firheart make off with the stone portal and its godstone, with the warrior vowing this realm shall soon have a new master. Strike Force, apparently done with its distance attacks, realizes their target, the godstone, is gone, and they disappear. The last straw for Skyrocket, her harness shorted out, is Manhunter suddenly taking off. She remarks she never should have gone on this mission in the first place. They return to base.

Elsewhere, Dr. Cyber contacts Number One of Strike Force and berates him for not only not acquiring the godstone, but bringing unwanted, massive negative publicity down on them. He tells her that they've put a tracer on the Dragoneer and will now only have to face him and not the Power Company at the same time. She relents slightly but tells them if they are not successful she will cancel plans to evac them from San Francisco and leave them to the San Francisco Police to pick up. After disconnecting, Number One says he'll never work for her again but will finish this job.

Back at Power Company offices, Witchfire talks with her manager about her upcoming media events and the possibility of her leaving the team. Josiah Power looks down from his office at the media asking embarrassingly negative questions of the Company's press secretary, Bobbie Roberts. After reminding Josiah that the Dragoneer's mystery boss might pose more of a threat than negative publicity, Skyrocket dejectedly exits to check out her damaged Argo Harness, wondering if she'll ever get it to work again. She finds it being worked on, and indeed repaired, by the team's tech expert, Charlie Lau. Embarrassed at shouting at him and pal Striker Z, she is quite appreciative of the repair and upgrades Charlie made to the machine. Just then, the team gathers in the conference room where the missing Manhunter reports that he left the scene to follow the Dragoneer, and has him spotted, with the godstone and its portal, on Alcatraz Island, in San Francisco Bay.

The Dragoneer, in contemplation of the imminent defeat and execution of all of Earth's leaders preparatory to the domination of the planet, invokes the shards of the Ever-Broken Heart to form the Double Moon, which, in its core shall appear a piece of the Ice-Blue Shadow to fulfill his master's desires. Soon, the Power Company approaches Alcatraz and, led by Skyrocket, begins launching their plan to take out the Dragoneer. They are not aware that Strike Force is following them, prepared to let them do the heavy lifting of attacking the Dragoneer, thus leaving them to swoop in afterwards and claim the godstone.

The spectacular power display of the godstone is being covered on tv by Amber Galliard in the KWHZ newschopper and seen by a shocked Christine St. Clair, who makes a frantic call to Asano Nitobe in Japan.

At a depot in Emeryville, Candy Gennaro is rousted from her nap on a bench and ordered to leave. Just then her interest is piqued when she sees a tv report which mentions the newly-formed and unusual team of super-heroes, the Power Company.
