Synopsis for "Venus Rising"

Captain Marvel is having an intense arm-wrestling match with Wonder Woman while the Shazam Elders cheer him on. He boldly admits that he agreed to this challenge merely to be closer to her and admire her, which she apparently respects. She wins, destroying the table beneath them in doing so, much to the ire of the Shazam Elders, but Captain Marvel has figured that this is actually what an Amazon must do to secure a mate (using the Wisdom of Solomon) and drags him off by his cape…

Unfortunately for Billy, he wakes up in the middle of the night to find that Shazam is there to wake him up and says that he recorded (over Billy's TV copy of The Day the Earth Stood Still) and shows him that NASA needs Captain Marvel's help, as Freya III has finally responded, but only to say as much. Billy goes back to sleep, saying he can't do this in the middle of the night and he has school tomorrow, so Shazam goes back to watching GNN in the dark, seeing a commercial for the new Fawcett Casino and their whimsical worm mascot, Mr. Mind! Elsewhere, Mr. Mind is eating coffee grounds in his Mr. Coffee, only to find the phone is ringing and he needs to go put on his human host to answer it. He soon finds that it's Mayor Sullivan who says that she got the pictures of her and Sinclair and that she's willing to not denounce Fawcett Casino. Ebenezer is soon confused by the idea until he wanders into Mr. Mind's control range and promises that it'll stay a secret between him and her… for now. Ebenezer soon goes back to bed.

Later, Shazam shows up during Mr. Briscoe's history class and pulls him out of class, upsetting Principal Wormwood yet again. Shazam tells him that the Justice League is signaling him and that he's gotten a missive directly from Sarge Steel, Head of the Department of Metahuman Activities! Billy, more worried than before, calls SHAZAM to become Captain Marvel and soon flies off to Washington, DC in minutes. Sarge Steel shows him that the person on the astronauts' team that called him is Sivana's son, Magnificus “Mag” Sivana, and Sarge Steel encourages Captain Marvel to help them… for America. He soon flies to the roof and calls SHAZAM twice to alter his suit to include connections for a space helmet. Using the Wisdom of Solomon, Captain Marvel is suited up and manages to find the guidance system is a Mother Box, an intelligent computer. Captain Marvel knows that the Mother Box doesn't like them, since they want all of her innermost secrets (and Mother Boxes are sentient.)

Elsewhere, Mary Bromfield is out with her friend Talia when suddenly a car drives over the curb and two street toughs drag Talia into their stolen car. One of the toughs, Hector, tries to pull an SMG on them, but finds that shooting at Mary Marvel yields predictable results. Talia is more than willing to try to forgive the men, since they're “friends” of her brother, but Mary Marvel says that she may need better friends… until Talia finds that Mary Bromfield is gone.

In space, Captain Marvel arrives via Boom Tube and figures he probably should've consulted Shazam first. He starts to enter the atmosphere of Venus through clouds of acid and lightning storms. Landing on what he believes to be a normal landmark, he finds it's instead a large hollowed meteor the size of a football field, which soon sucks him in and reveals that this is where the Freya III is being kept! He hears Venusian voices calling out for him as Captain Marvel finds the ship is open, but seemingly not damaged, but son finds one of the astronauts… dead from seeming malnutrition! A Venusian voice instructs a second astronaut to try to get Mag to invite Captain Marvel willingly where they need him. Mag arrives and tells him that Heinrich ripped his own suit open and killed himself out of panic and stress. Leading him further into the meteor, he finds two other astronauts next to some form of assembly line. Mag introduces him to one of them, the French Chantal, and an “old friend” of his… Dr. Sivana himself! The Mother Box pings to indicate danger as Sivana says he's planning an invasion… and he needs his help!
