The Ray (Volume 2) #1 is an issue of the series The Ray (Volume 2) with a cover date of May, 1994.
Synopsis for "Rebirth"
Ray is sitting in his new apartment typing a letter. He tells of how he was fighting Brimstone yesterday but deletes the file and starts again earlier. He gets his first apartment, a tiny unfurnished place above Shahid's Famous Pizza - empty apart from a wierd metallic sculpture. He goes to work at Clucky Chicken only to discover his job today is dress as the chicken mascot and hand out fliers. He is greeted by his cousin, Hank, who wants Ray to fly them to Hawaii that night. Ray's girlfriend, Jen, also arrives and cancels their date as she must work late. Then it starts to rain. Ray ultimately decides to take Hank to Hawaii where they hang out near a volcano tourist attraction. Also at the attraction is Merritz, an abandoned troll-like servant of Darkseid who manages to activate a Technoseed thereby creating Brimstone who promptly squashes him. Ray changes into his heroic costume and tries to fight Brimstone when Superboy arrives. The two heroes bicker as they fight Brimstone and ultimately bring him to a deserted side of the island and bind him. The two heroes bicker more until Superboy punches Ray. Ray retaliates with his energy blasts but drains himself - there is no useable light on this side of the island. Because Superboy isn't moving, Ray believes he may have killed him when Brimstone breaks free of his bonds.
