The Reach is an insectoid race of conquerors. They created scarab exoskeletons, one of which was used by Blue Beetle.

History

The Reach and their empire came into existence many thousands of years ago, coming into conflict with the Guardians of the Universe. They created powerful devices called Scarabs, techo-organic exoskeletons that bonded with their users, granting them access to powerful weapons. At some point, one of these scarabs ended up on Earth, losing contact with its central directives. It somehow became imbued with magic, and was the centerpoint of a conflict between Arion and Nabu in Ancient Egypt.

Many centuries ago, the Reach warred with the Tamaraneans. Opposing the war, a portion of the Reach split off, becoming known as the The Horizon. Many Horizon refugees were given shelter and aid by the Tamaraneans.

At some point in the past several years, the Reach attempted to invade Earth, but were thwarted by a group that included the rogue Scarab Khaji Da and his human host, Jaime Reyes, also known as the Blue Beetle. However, they did not abandon their plans for Earth.

Notes

Trivia

  • Though initially depicted on Prime Earth as more insectoid than previous iterations, later stories reverted them to their pre-Flashpoint aesthetic.
