Synopsis for "Monsters From A Thousand Fathoms"

Captain Ransom is concerned that his son has no taste for life at sea. His only son spends his days reading books but he comes from seven generations of sea captains. The father decides that his son would benefit from a voyage at sea so they embark on a trip aboard the ship Yankee Trader. Unbeknownst to the captain, his crew of three decides to mutiny and confiscate a chest full of gold aboard ship. During the trip, the crew experiences huge waves and they encounter a huge aquatic monster rising from the ocean. The monster and the waves subside and the crew moves in to claim the gold for themselves. They force the captain to open up the chest of gold to make sure it's there and then they demand a small lifeboat to row out to a small island in the distance. The crew sets out but they mysteriously make no headway in reaching the distant island. They open up the chest of gold and discover that it contains only sand. The Captain and his son view the scene from aboard their ship. At this point the son admits that he had hypnotized the crew into believing that they were seeing huge waves and sea monsters. The chest full of gold was also an illusion as well as the tiny island they were trying to reach. All this knowledge was acquired from the books he had read. The son decides that maybe he would make a good sea captain after all and decides to continue his family tradition of life at sea.
