The Way of the Warrior is a crossover story between the titles Guy Gardner: Warrior, Justice League America, and Hawkman, published throughout July and September of 1995. It involves Guy Gardner and the Justice League fighting the Tormocks, space aliens bent on eradicating the last of the Vuldarians.

Synopsis

Guy Gardner's Vuldarian powers go berzerk with the presence of the Kraggz, robots sent by the Tormocks to hunt for Guy. With the help of the Justice League, Guy fends off the Kraggz, but his powers short-circuit again.[1]

During a vision, Cardone, Guy's long Vuldarian ancestor, makes Guy relive his story and see what the Tormocks have caused to him. Cardone killed Harkkun, the brother of the Tormocks' leader, Bronkk, which fueled the war between both races. By the end of the vision, Guy recovers control of his abilities.[2]

The Justice League gathers up on a spaceship and heads off to the Tormocks' home planet. However, a battle against their robots damages their ship, which causes them to land on Thanagar while they make repairs.[3] During their stay, they save the remaining Thanagarians from Leechun colonizers. The locals ask Hawkman to stay and guide them to rebuild Thanagar, but he rejects, incapable of seeing that planet as his home anymore.[4]

Again in space, the League encounters a Tormock armada that incapacitates their ship and captures most of them, leaving only Wonder Woman, Hawkman, and the former Green Lantern Probert to rescue them.[5] The Tormocks take Gardner to their high priestess Karine, who tries to convince Guy to interbreed to perpetuate the Tormock/Vuldarian bloodlines, against her Bronkk's wishes.[6]

Meanwhile, the captured members of the Justice League manage to escape from Flicker's traps, and they learn that the planetoid is a living ship used as a weapon of mass destruction by Karine. Martian Manhunter and Maxima link with its mind and convince the ship to help them.[7]

Wonder Woman, Hawkman, and Probert rescue Guy from Karine, triggering a planet-wide alert. Surrounded by Tormocks, Guy and his crew have no other option but to fight through the aliens. Guy arrives at the Tormocks' command center and fights Bronkk and Karine. The Justice League joins the battle in time, bringing the World Devourer with them, which swallows Karine into a black hole. As Guy and Bronkk continue fighting, Guy allows Cardone to come forth to take his place and kill Bronkk, finishing the Tormocks' threat in the universe. An eons-long war is over, and as Cardone bids farewell, he recognizes Guy as the last Vuldarian, a warrior without equal.[8]
