Thomas Curry is the adoptive father of Aquaman (Arthur Curry).

Originally in Silver Age continuity Arthur Curry was the son of a lighthouse keeper named Tom Curry and a woman named Atlanna. Tom's son manifested incredible strength and speed at a young age, as well as the abilities to breathe underwater and talk to fish. On her deathbed, his mother revealed to her son that she is the exiled Queen of Atlantis and he would someday inherit rule of the seven seas. His father gave him an education and taught him to control his powers, eventually allowing him to grow up and become the super-hero Aquaman.[1]

Aquamans origins were changed when the universe was rebooted during the Crisis on Infinite Earths.[2] Many years ago, the elderly lighthouse keeper Tom Curry found a blond a child swimming in the ocean. This boy was no other than Prince Orin, abandoned by his Atlantean people and taken care of by the dolphin Porm.

The lighthouse keeper became the boy's friend and mentor, and taught him to speak English. He also gave the boy a name Arthur Curry. One day, the boy returned from a swim in the sea to find his foster father gone. Presumably, he was dead, because he never returned. The boy returned to the sea to wander the oceans, and eventually grew up to become Aquaman, King of the Seven Seas.

Flashpoint

Flashpoint Vol 2 1 Textless
Flashpoint
This section of the history takes place during Flashpoint, a massive crossover event set in an alternate timeline to the mainstream DCU. History was completely changed when Professor Zoom finally found a way to erase his nemesis the Flash without harming his own legacy.

In the alternate timeline of the Flashpoint event, Aquaman was brought back to Atlantis when he was a teenager, due to the death of his grandfather. As a result, the young Arthur never learned compassion and kindness from his father, who was killed by the Atlantean agents sent to recover him.

Justice League Vol 2 1 Textless
The New 52
The DC Universe heavily changed its continuity into the DCnU following the events of Flashpoint in 2011. This was part of an effort to make storylines more accessible to newer readers, beginning with the New 52. This new timeline combines elements from the DCU, Vertigo Universe and Wildstorm Universe while drastically changing the origins and histories of characters.

Tom Curry introduced his son to Dr. Stephen Shin, and allowed him to observe his son's Atlantean powers. Eventually, Shin tried to get Tom to reveal Arthur's powers to the public, but he refused, and took all evidence of his son. Allying with Black Manta, Shin attempted to get some of Arthur's blood. Manta attacked Arthur, but Tom interfered. He suffered a heart attack, and died three days later in hospital.
