Nemesis is a vigilante working for Checkmate.
History
As a freelance spy, Nemesis competed with the intelligence agency Spyral in Siberia, where he fought an individual impersonating Spyral Agent 37 Dick Grayson on the roof of train car. Nemesis was struck unconscious by the agent's gun, handcuffed to the car, and beaten with an escrima stick, seemingly to death. Nemesis' apparent death, and those of other spies under similar circumstances on Spyral missions, served to escalate tensions between the agency and the espionage community.[1]
As a member of the Checkmate agency, Nemesis served as White Queen Amanda Waller's Bishop. During a mission involving Spyral agents Clark Kent and Lois Lane, he was incapacitated and lay prone at the bound agents' feet while Supergirl pursued the Penguin, fleeing in a helicopter.[2]
Nemesis went to the Sanctuary to deal with the distress of his activities as a vigilante. He was seemingly killed by a mysterious force that affected a fellow patient who went into distress and lost control of his powers, fatally blasting Nemesis and others who had approached out of concern.
However, the time-traveller Gold Beetle replaced the heroes in treatment at the Sanctuary with clones from the 35th century, saving their lives.[3]
