Thomas Wayne's Batman costume was a fancy dress outfit worn by Bruce Wayne's father, Dr. Thomas Wayne.

History

It was made for a costume party with a 'Flying Creatures' theme, which Dr. Wayne and his wife Martha attended, and which won him first prize.

Bruce had been fascinated by the costume and wished he could wear one like it, and his father promised to save it for when his son grew up.

Dr. Wayne wore this costume when he fought the thugs of crime boss Lew Moxon. This inspired his son Bruce, although Dr. Wayne was killed, along with his wife, by Joe Chill for the offense. Years later, Bruce used the costume in order to remind Moxon of his past crimes, but the shock was so great that the criminal met his demise as he ran into the path of an oncoming truck.[1]

Batman kept the costume locked in a glass display on his trophy room in the Batcave, until certain day one of his enemies snatched it and ripped it before sending it back to Batman as a threat.[2]

The costume was later used by Doctor Hurt, who claimed to be Thomas Wayne having faked his own death.[3]

When Bruce Wayne was forced to travel in time, he arrived at the 1930s and a woman convinced him to wear the costume in order to capture the killers of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Bruce wore the costume, not knowing it belonged to his father, and followed the plan until he was betrayed by the woman and attacked by the Black Glove.[4]
