Thorion of the New Asgods #1 is a one-shot with a cover date of June, 1997. It was published on April 2, 1997.
Synopsis for "Thorion the Hunter"
Ragnarok, which is described as "the twilight of the gods", "the end days", and "the final conflict between the gods and the forces of evil" is occurring. The New Asgods are at war with Thanoseid's Steppenwolf Legions, who outran the Asgodian defenses and breached Odin's chamber. However, when the Steppenwolf Legions breached the chamber, Odin was already prepared for their arrival.
Meanwhile, Thorion is on the battlefield, fighting the Steppenwolf Legions. After defeating a group of soldiers from the Steppenwolf Legions, Thorion came upon three cocoons and used the light from his hammer to break open the cocoons. Next, Thorion flew away, using his hammer.
Thanoseid was watching Thorion from a monitor with L'ok D'saad. Thanoseid asked if L'ok D'saad would attack his half brother, Thorion. L'ok D'saad informed his master that he needed the Mother Cube.
After the battle against the Steppenwolf Legions, Thorion arrived at New Asgard where he was greeted by Bald'r Lightbringer. Thorion and Bald'r went to Odin's chamber where they were knelt before him and were greeted. Odin the Highfather told Thorion and Bald'r about "the end day" which would be brought about by the Promethean Giants, Ymir of the Frozen Wastes, Surtur, lord of all things infernal, Kalibak, the thrice damned, and Mangog, also called dark harbinger.
Later, L'ok D'saad had the Mother Cube in his possession and sought to finish Ragnarok, the end of New Asgard. Thorion confronted his half-brother. The two brothers discussed about how L'ok D'saad was traded by Highfather for the Hammer of the Old Gods in order to maintain a truce between Apokalypse and New Asgard. L'ok D'saad used the Mother Cube to summon Surtur. Thorion drew his hammer and shot out light, causing a huge explosion. Thorion's hammer was left on the ground.
In the aftermath, Thorion was transformed into a being of living energy by the Infinity Essence and the Astro-Force and became known as the Celestial.
