The Three Bears are a group of leather-clad thugs who were hired by Mr. Hatch to kidnap Dick Grayson.[1]
History
Some time after Dick Grayson inherited Alfred Pennyworth's fortune, Mr. Hatch planned to kidnap him for ransom, and to do so he hired the Three Bears.[2]
On the night they were supposed to carry out the kidnapping plan, however, the Three Bears did not count on Dick being in the company of Jason Todd, who remembered them hanging at the 440 Club, very far from the Lowdown Tavern in The Hill neighborhood of Gotham City, where they were then.
Realizing that the Bears were after Dick, the brothers went to the alley at the back of the tavern to lure them out, and there they clashed. With the beating they were taking from Dick and Jason, who they didn't know were the secret identities of Nightwing and Red Hood, the Three Bears changed their plan, instead of kidnapping Dick they now wanted to shoot them both dead. Still, the Three Bears were no match for Dick and Jason, who, after a quick fight, defeated the thugs. Jason tortured one of them to loosen his tongue, and soon they learned who they were, who they were working for, and what they wanted with Dick.[3]
