Tim Burton (b. August 25, 1958) is a prolific American film director and producer known for his gothic, quirky style, who directed the films Batman and Batman Returns.

Tim Burton is an American film director, screenwriter, producer and set designer, notable for the quirky and often dark, gothic atmosphere pervading his high-profile films. The protagonists are usually misfits or outsiders, physically or emotionally different or scarred.
He directed the 1989 Batman feature film, effectively re-inventing the franchise. He returned in 1992 to direct the film's sequel Batman Returns. Although this was the last film of the franchise directed by Burton, he did return for 1995's Batman Forever in the role of producer.

- Burton is the first of two directors to make both a Batman film and a Planet of the Apes film. The second was Matt Reeves, who directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes before directing The Batman.
