Synopsis for "Shock Value"

The Titans are still getting settled in to their refurbished headquarters. Cyborg establishes a Titan email helpline, which immediately grows flooded with requests from supposedly troubled teens. Flash tries to talk with Troia, but she abruptly brushes him off. Arsenal's babysitter, Chanda Madan, arrives at the tower to look after his daughter, Lian, and Damage tells the others about his favorite horror movie star, Goth.

Nightwing decides that the team needs to get a feel for one another so he recommends segregated "guys' night" and "girls" night. While the male members of the team remains at the tower to watch one of Damage's Goth movies, Troia, Starfire, Argent and Jesse Quick decide to go to a nightclub.

As the men watch the horror film, Cyborg discovers that many of the movie's death scenes match those described in some of the emails he has received. Nightwing, upon reviewing Cyborg's data, begins to suspect that there is more to this Goth character than meets the eye.

Meanwhile, the girls go dancing at a club called Exotiqua. Jesse asks Donna why she's been on such a short fuse lately and she tells her of her recent experiences with Dark Angel. She demonstrates the fact that her existence in this reality is based upon Wally West's memories of her. She doesn't even know if Wally's idealistic perception of Donna is genuine or not. She grows so frustrated over her identity crisis that she lashes out at another club patron. Moments later, Goth appears inside the club and approaches Donna ...

Trivia

  • This issue features a scene involving a student killing several other students at his high school with a handgun. Ironically, this issue hit the stands the same week as the Columbine High School shootings (obviously, this issue was written well before the Columbine incident, and the creators could not have predicted how their story would mirror real life events).
  • Argent's clothing from this issue was designed by the Mad Mod.
