Synopsis for "His First Day on the New Job"

Captain Jetman welcomes the new recruit to Precinct 10 and passes him off to Hyperdog, who takes him to the briefing room and introduces him to the rest of the squad. Joe Pi is an artificial intelligence transferred from Precinct 9. He is assigned to be Irma Geddon's partner, now that her former partner, Girl One, is dead. At the briefing, Smax receives a letter from home.

Dust Devil, Shock-Headed Peter, Joe Pi and Irma Geddon respond to a call and find a dead body. Checking his data banks, Pi determines it is the body of Trent Edison, and that he lived in an apartment building on the street where his body was found. Pi enters the apartment building and returns a couple minutes later with Edison's wife. Together, they get into a police cruiser and head back to the precinct house.

King Peacock returns from winning an interdepartmental gladiatorial contest and tells Synaesthesia he will see her at Girl One's funeral. Meanwhile, Smax visits Toybox at the hospital. Slinger tells Smax that while she was under the rubble, she spoke with someone calling themselves The Rumor. Smax tells her that she was probably just hallucinating. He then tells Slinger that he received a letter stating that his Uncle Mack has died and that he may be taking some time off to attend to the matter.

The squad attends Girl One's funeral and Pi takes Irma Geddon home after the service. When they arrive, Pi enters Irma's home with her and meets her children and husband. He then leaves after making a good impression on Irma's family.

That night, Smax is taking care of Slinger's father, who has Alzheimer's. The old man is verbally abusive to Smax and reminds Smax that he no longer has a father.
