The Trench Queen is the second den mother and supreme ruler of the Trench since the Trench have been rediscovered by the other Atlantean tribes.

Years ago, the juvenile Trench Queen was discovered by LexCorp oil drillers in the Atlantic Ocean. They took her back to their oil rig where company scientists experimented on her. She was able to make telepathic contact with the scattered remnants of the Trench, who had been leaderless since her predecessor had been killed by Aquaman. The Trench attacked the rig en masse to rescue her, and Aquaman and Mera responded to the attack. Aquaman freed her from her containment tank and handed her over to the Trench. She ordered them to withdraw peacefully, a very unusual decision for a Trench leader.[1]

Under her rule, the Trench have become marginally more civilised, to the point that she was invited to the royal wedding in Atlantis.[2] Her chosen mate is also unusually intelligent for a male Trench,[3] and she at least tolerates the existence of intelligent half-human Trench hybrids.[4] This all suggests an attempt to breed sentience back into the Trench.

Despite this, the Trench remain hostile to the other undersea kingdoms and have even raided them on occasion.[5][6]

Powers

  • Trench Physiology: Like their sibling species, the Trench adapted to life on the ocean floor much like all the other Atlantean cultures. Hence their monstrous appearance which gives them the visage of vicious angler fish.
  • Toxikinesis: The Trench have the ability to spit a chemical from their mouth that can cause paralysis.[7]
  • Bioluminescence: The Trench possess a natural ability to generate a personal light source from their own bodies.
  • Razor-Sharp Teeth: The teeth of the Trench are powerful enough to bite through flesh and bone.
  • Needle Point Nails: The Trench have incredibly sharp talons capable of cutting and rending tempred steel with ease. Those of the Trench leader were potent enough to rend even Arthur Curry's dense skin.[7]
  • Telepathy: The Trench Queen was able to non-verbally communicate with and control other Trench over great distances.[1]

Abilities

  • Above-Average Intelligence: The Trench Queen appears to possess a significantly higher level of intelligence than a typical Trench. She is able to remember individuals, make value judgements and shows a basic understanding of politics and diplomacy.[1][2]
