Synopsis for "I Remember The Day..."
Firestorm concludes that he is not in a parallel world but his world somehow changed. He does research and discovers that the Justice Society of America didn't retire due to the McCarthy hearings but when public with their identities. Using their records, connections, and fame to inspire people creating a host of volunteers eventually becoming a National Service Phenomenon.
However, no Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman appeared and so the heroes that would have formed the Justice League of America when the Appellaxians attacked weren't seen as heroes with the exception of the second Flash and even he didn't last long.
Firestorm notes this world doesn't even have the word "superhero" going from "mystery men" to "metahuman" instead. Firestorm is called out of the library by the authorities to discover giant Amazos. Escaping Firestorm hopes he can find John Stewart to help him.

Synopsis for "Bound To Matter"
Krona confronts the Controllers on Laboratory World 7431 and demands they help him communicate with the conscious mind of the New Earth reality. The Controllers set up equipment to capture a universal being...which turns out to be Krona himself. Krona quickly destroys the Controllers and their world and feels gratitude. He realizes that the world had been alive and this is true of other planets and even stars. Krona then goes on a quest to awaken these universal consciousnesses and get his answers from them.
