Tula lost her parents soon after her birth. She was found and adopted by one of the royal families of Atlantis.

Given the title of Princess of Poseidonis, Tula was schooled in Atlantean traditions. She never left the royal palace until she was 15, when she met Aqualad. The two were complete opposites from each other, but they fell in love regardless.

Tula would sometimes help Aqualad with missions during his time with the Teen Titans; she also became an honorary member. She took the name Aquagirl to honor her boyfriend as well as Aquaman. When Aquaman left his throne to search for his then-missing wife Mera, Tula played an important role in Atlantis. Atlantis was ruled by Nakran in Aquaman's absence, and he ruled Atlantis as a dictatorship. His reign fell only when Tula led a rebellion against him. Tula continued her life after this, resuming her life with Garth when he returned to Atlantis. She continued to be an ally to Garth and the Teen Titans. She and Garth aided the Titans in bringing down the H.I.V.E. once and for all.

Aquagirl was killed by the villain Chemo after she drowned in water that he poisoned.

She was brought back by Brother Blood - along with Hawk and Dove, Phantasm, and Kole - to fight against the Teen Titans. After being freed by Beast Boy and Raven, Kid Eternity was able to lay the deceased Titans back to rest.

Tula's spirit was resurrected a short time later by Kid Eternity who had been trapped in Hell. Tula fought against Brother Blood and was able to manifest herself long enough to punch Blood in the jaw for forcing her to fight her friends. After which, she disappeared back into the ether. [1]

A statue of Tula was built in the "Hall of Fallen Titans" at Titans Tower, alongside the original Hawk and Dove, Kole, and others.

Blackest Night

Aquagirl has been revived along with many other Atlanteans, and she has so far killed Tempest.

Powers

  • Self-Sustenance: Part of her Atlantean heritage; she can breathe underwater and above water for extended periods. She can also resist deep sea pressure and swimming speeds at great length.
  • Superhuman Speed: Aquagirl can swim 100 m.p.h underwater.
  • Superhuman Strength: Aquagirl possesses super strength.
  • Superhuman Durability: Aquagirl possesses a high level of toughness.

Weaknesses

  • Asphyxiation: Atlanteans can only exist outside of water for a limited period of time or else they will dehydrate, asphyxiate and ultimately die.

Weapons

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Tula is actually the third character to adopt the name of Aquagirl. The first was Lisa Morel, and the second was a woman named Selena.
  • Tula was a citizen of Atlantis with no criminal record; currently declared legally deceased. By surface world standards, Tula would have been considered a minor up until the point of her death. Whether such an appelation applied to Atlantean culture or not is unknown.
