The strange energy life-form known only as the Unimaginable cannot be seen by human eyes. Bored with existence, the Unimaginable left its native planet and traveled through space, exploring several other worlds and gathering various life-forms along the way. Arriving on Earth, it saw the JLA in action and decided that it wanted to join the team. However, the Justice Leaguers refused the Unimaginable's demands, and the Unimaginable attacked, first with several of the alien creatures it had gathered, then in the body of one of them, a Doctor Bendorion. The JLA defeated the Unimaginable both times and imprisoned it.

Years later, the Unimaginable returned in outer space, battling the Green Lantern named Alia, whom it had previously encountered and wanted revenge on. The Daxamite hero Valor saved Alia and seemingly disintegrated the Unimaginable with a burst of laser vision.[1][2][3]

The Unimaginable resurfaced after being captured by LexCorp and contained in a chamber called Lockdown-6. The Unimaginable's capsule attracted the attentions of Darkseid and the Okaarans, whom the former wanted its power while the latter saw the dangers behind the capsule had sent a "cleansing batallion" to Earth.[4] Subsequently, the Unimaginable was freed from its prison and its host, Doctor Bendorion, sought to transfer its energy to a new host; in which it was to be Maximum, who had been engineered by LexCorp to serve such a purpose. The Unimaginable succeeded, and Maximum inherited the power of a God.[5][6] In the end, Maximum's parents convinced him to relinquish the power, which he sent "everywhere."[7]

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
