The Unknown Soldiers are mutilated and deranged soldiers fighting a brutal, pointless war with the degenerated Animal Men and Swamp Thing.
History
After humanity turned to evil and the superheroes fell, Fort Waller was established. It was a base protected by Captain Atom where the greatest scientists and noblest soldiers would live to create new superheroes. It had so much potential that avatars of The Green and The Red were told to protect it.
However, through unknown events, the base degenerated into ruin. Captain Atom was killed and both the Parliament of Trees and the Parliament of Limbs were destroyed, causing Swamp Thing and the Animal Men respectively to become feral. The soldiers on the base turned greedy and deluded, waging a blood-soaked war using Haunted Tanks against the avatars over the small remnants of power left, despite the tolls on their bodies.
Batman and Joker on their journey through the ruined Earth witnessed one such battle. As Joker mused that the fate of Fort Waller was the result of base human nature, a monstrous Swamp Thing arose onto the battlefield.[1]
