Quote1 You can call me the Upside-Down Man, if you like. Perhaps you would rather scream. Quote2

The Upside-Down Man was one of the Otherkind, all powerful beings of horror and reflections of all dark and twisted possibilities of magic.

Origin

The Upside Down Man was formed when creation gave birth to Magic. The magic in its raw form eventually turned into a bright light that formed Hecate, the first magical being. As she was formed from the light, the Upside-Down Man was formed from the darkness, in the Other Place. Frightened by his presence, Hecate created a barrier to hide the Upside-Down Man away, not wanting her beautiful realm to be tainted by horror.[2]

Infinite Frontier

The Great Darkness eventually took control of the Upside-Down Man's mind, alongside many other cosmic forces of evil who had sought its power.[3]

The Darkness' forces invaded the Multiverse, and Justice League Incarnate and the Justice League of Earth 0 tracked the origin point of the invasion to the ruins of the pre-Crisis Multiverse. Doctor Multiverse teleported the teams to Multiverse-2 where Pariah was modifying his antimatter chamber from the first Crisis to allow the Darkness to enter reality.

The heroes attempted to reason with Pariah but he refused to listen and summoned the Upside-Down Man and the other possessed villains. However, Green Arrow was able to destroy the chamber, cutting the Darkness' link to reality and causing Upside-Down Man and the rest of the Darkness' forces to dissipate.[4]

The Upside-Down Man and the rest of the Dark Army later invaded Earth 0.[5] The heroes managed to banish Pariah to a pocket universe but Upside-Down Man and the others remained possessed as the corrupted Darkness transferred to Deathstroke.[6] Black Adam used his lightning again to purge the Darkness from Deathstroke, freeing Upside-Down Man and the other possessed villains.[7]

Dawn of DC

Some time after the Dark Crisis, the Upside-Down Man is seen attending to Nocturna's party in the IV club in New York City where he tried to feed himself on Luke Fox's life energy.[8]
