Valkyra the Commander was a New God of New Genesis and the mother of Vykin the Black.
History
Valkyra was also Orion's teacher, teaching him the way of the warrior. After having some "philosophical differences" with her son, Valkyra isolated herself from the other New Gods, living in her own fortress in New Genesis' south pole. Hundreds of years later, Vikyn visited Valkyra again, with the dire plea for her to teach Orion to fight again, who was recently resurrected from the Source Wall. Valkya engaged in combat with Orion, and Orion remembered his warrior nature at that moment.[1]
Following the Genesis crisis, Valkyra's fortress crumbled down after some cataclysms hit New Genesis. Orion looked after her and rescued Valkyra from an ancient living weapon that resurfaced after the pole melted. After being rescued, Valkyra admitted to have an attraction to Orion, emotions that were not appropriate between a teacher and her pupil at the time.[2] They started a romantic relationship, a romance which was tragically cut short when Valkyra sacrificed herself to save Orion from the Black Racer.[3]
