The Valkyries are armored maidens who ride winged horses. They seek out the newly dead, and accompany the mightiest warriors to Valhalla.
History
Earth-Two
In November 1940, the Valkyries fought the Justice Society, including Doctor Fate, Green Lantern, and the Spectre, to a standstill.[1] Their alliance with Hitler brought them into conflict with Wonder Woman when one of their number targeted Steve Trevor. They later attacked the Amazons of Paradise Island and abducted several to Valhalla. The final confrontation between the Valkyries and Amazons saw the Valkyries defeated and folded into the Amazons' population on Paradise Island.[2]
Prime Earth
When humankind was still young, the matriarchal oracles of each pantheon foresaw a danger coming from the stars. Since the gods, who couldn't see the threat, didn't take it seriously, those goddesses united to find a solution and decided to create a new race. To achieve that, they poured their godly essences into the Holy Grail, so their energies would mingle, and each goddess drank a sip from the resulting liquid. Frigga was one of the goddesses who combined their godly essences into the Holy Grail to create a new race. After the goddesses split up, Frigga left Midgard for Valhalla where she gave birth and raised the new race under the name of Valkyries.[3]

Notes
- This character or object is an adaptation of Valkyries, a character or object in traditional stories. These include, but may not be limited to religious texts, myth, and/or folk lore. More information on the original can be found at Wikipedia.org.
- Valkyries have appeared with little consistency. In the Golden Age, they were Wonder Woman villains; in the Silver Age, they were involved with Viking Prince and Viking Commando, two warriors alive beyond their time. Eventually, on Prime Earth, the Valkyries and Amazons are revealed to be part of the same race.[4]
