Vanessa, also known as Vanadia, was a cyborg tricked by T.O. Morrow and Amanda Waller into attacking the Titans.

History

Vanessa wanted to be a superhero and join the Titans since she was eleven years old. She spent years training herself to the peak of physical prowess and at eighteen became a vigilante using the codename "Vanadia" and a home-made costume. She signed up for S.T.A.R. Labs' "post-human project" in the hopes of gaining superpowers. She signed everything put in front of her immediately, despite being advised to let a lawyer check it first.

Professor Morrow injected Vanessa with performance-enhancing drugs which gave her super-strength and speed. She was overjoyed, believing that she would achieve her dream, but the drugs also put great strain on her heart and she suffered a heart attack and died. Morrow had her brain removed from her body and stored for later use, which the waivers she had signed allowed him to do.

Years later, Waller asked Morrow for a weapon to destroy the Titans, promising him unlimited resources for his research if he succeeded. Morrow built an android shell based on Amazo technology which possessed the powers of all the Titans. He installed Vanessa's brain inside and programmed her to believe that the Titans had been replaced by evil impostors, as well as giving her a will to fight until she was destroyed. Morrow sent Vanadia to assault Titans Tower where, seeing her heroes as monsters, she attacked and tried to kill them.

Dark Raven was wounded in Vanadia's initial attack and retreated to Hell. The Titans were eventually able to restrain Vanadia and Cyborg hacked into her system. He removed the filter that Morrow had placed over her senses, allowing her to see the Titans for who they really were. Unfortuantely, Dark Raven then teleported back in and destroyed her.
