In the early part of World War II, prior to the U.S. entry into that conflict, the U.S.-friendly nation of Baltica was attacked by its neighboring nation Vandam.
History
In late 1940, the U.S. government agreed to sell a number of experimental fighter planes to the beleaguered government of war-torn Baltica. A Vandamian secret agent, Vulcan Metz, impersonated the American test pilot, Wings Wendall, and stole the prototype warplane. The American test pilot followed Metz to Europe, arriving by steamship in Baltica to witness a Vandamian air raid against several Baltican civilian targets. Wendall stole a Baltican fighter plane and engaged the Vandamian raiders, but was shot down. He then stole a Vandamian fighter plane and flew it to Vandam's military aerodrome, where he impersonated his own impersonator, and re-stole the experimental fighter plane, which he flew back to America.
