- Vartox was created by Cary Bates and Curt Swan, first appearing in Superman #281. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Vartox first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Action Comics (Volume 2) #15 by Grant Morrison, Brad Walker, and Rags Morales.
