Velvet Tiger is a blackmailer and an extortionist whose desire for more influence and money led her to pursue greater ambitions in the Gotham City criminal underworld. Originally, Lani Gilbert managed to achieve fame and wealth as the co-owner of Gotham's Gilcom, a multinational computer hardware manufacturing company. Eventually, she was seduced by the ease of using computers to access other people's systems and secrets, ultimately causing her to go down a dark path. Lani has the ability to distort and skip through time for a couple of seconds, which is effectively similar to having super-speed. She primarily acts an enemy of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, but has gone up against Hawk and Dove.
