The Vietnam War was an armed conflict during the Cold War between the United States and South Vietnam on one side and North Vietnam and the Viet Cong on the other. The war followed colonial unrest, and lasted from 1 November 1955 to 30 April 1975 when the South Vietnamese capital Saigon fell. The United States had deployed many troops, and the loss of the war has affected an entire generation and traumatized many soldiers.
