Vol Litvínov is the best friend of Jace Fox, the next Batman. He uses his computer skills to supply Batman with information and assist him in the field.

Early Life

Vol Litvínov was a hacker from Russia, using his skills with the intent of stealing money and meeting girls. His targets happened to be oligarchs that were becoming wealthy at the expense of the average person.[1]

Eventually, Vol wound up at the Sanford Military Academy, an international boarding school deemed the "animal farm" due to it being where the rich dumped their problem children. There, he met Tim Fox and Hadiyah, the trio becoming friends.

Second Son

Sometime after both he and Tim, now going by Jace, got out of the Academy he assisted him with his efforts to take down Tyler Arkadine, a rich philanthropist running a trafficking ring in Vietnam.[2] While Jace was unable to take down Arkadine, he eventually wound up in Gotham after Lucius Fox's decision to bring him home, where Vol continued to help him bring down Arkadine.

Vol alerted Jace to the arrival of Arkadine's courier in Gotham, leading to his first encounter with Eabha O'Roark. Eventually, Jace was able to secure the courier's bag and defeat Eabha with help from Katana, whom Vol had called. Their success lead to Vol's discovery of six identification cards containing the information of left-leaning radicals. Vol also was able to find the Hibernaculum, leading Jace down to the Wayne Enterprises subbasement where he found a Batsuit.[3]

I Am Batman Begins

Vol began hacking into the Batsuit's operating system, while also alerting Jace to the fact that at least one of the radicals was in Gotham. Jace contacted Vol afterwards, informing him that the radicals were dead and that professional hitters were taking their place in a rally to incite violence. As Jace donned the Batsuit and became Batman, Vol helped him with some of the weapons in the midst of his first fight. Afterwards, Vol and Jace designed a new Batsuit.[4]

As the Magistrate and Scarecrow plunged Gotham into the Fear State, Vol helped Batman against threats such as Seer and the Moral Authority.[5] Though Tyler Arkadine was arrested, Victor Noonan had him murdered in jail, fearing that he'd talk about his plans. Batman's attempts to save Simon Saint from a similar fate failed, as he was ambushed by T.A.L.O.S. agents, though with assistance from Lucius he was able to come out of the conflict victorious. Afterwards, Jace and his family moved to New York City.[6]

Arriving in New York

Vol arrived in New York City alongside Jace, though was taken aback when he learned of his intention to continue his operations as Batman.[1] Vol alerted Batman to the mayor of New York City, Rafael Villanueva, wishing to meet him, leading to their teaming up with a Special Crimes Unit termed "Strike Force Bat."

Vol and Jace carried out his adventures as Batman out of FoxTech offices. Amidst a group of murders being committed by a mysterious artistic serial killer, Jace set up a shell real estate company and tasked Vol with looking for property that would better suit their activities.[7]

Vol met with Hadiyah, attempting to get her to talk to Jace. Although she rebuffed his assertion that Jace loved her, she stated that she would always be around.[8] Attempting to find a property in which Jace could operate as Batman, Vol's inquiries were met with suspicion due to his Russian background. Later, Jace came up with a profile to help find the killer, whom he nicknamed Manray, admitting that it came from Hadiyah. A frustrated Vol informed Jace of his discomfort of being judged due to the nature of their activities, but continued to help upon Jace's admission that he needed his and Hadiyah's help.[9]

After Batman defeated Manray, Vol was able to present the Helix to Jace as a headquarters, with the new location having a particular focus around his Batman's efforts to be a man of the people. Vol even proposed that the Helix's street level be a satellite office for the Fox Family Impact Fund.[10]

Vol assisted Batman and the Question in their efforts to find Anarky's murderer, questioning the latter as to if she would be joining their team.

Dark Crisis

After Batman was attacked by Sinestro, Vol was able to hack into the Justice League's database, learning information about him and the contract he was given by Deathstroke. Vol urged Jace to seek help from heroes like Superman, but he refused, informing him of his prior refusals to join his Justice League and to step up once Titans Tower was destroyed. After he defeated Sinestro, Batman contacted Vol and informed him of his intent to join the fight at the Hall of Justice, much to his surprise.[11]

Motherless Child

When a series of killings started with the murder of Tanya Fox's assistant, Vol pondered if someone had figured out Jace's being Batman.[12]

Tiffany Fox made her way to the Helix amidst the ransom for Jace's birth mother, asking for Vol's help to save her, as her brother was too conflicted. They collaborated with Detective Chubb and her team, though Hadiyah also contacted Vol, inquiring as to Jace's whereabouts, already knowledgeable about his activities as Batman.[13]
