Captain von Tepp was a Luftwaffe pilot tied to the origin of Blackhawk. The sadistic officer bombed a hospital in Poland, resulting in the death of Blackhawk's siblings. Even after Von Tepp's death, his brother Baron von Tepp plagued the fearless champion of freedom. In Mark Evanier's reboot, he is called Ernst von Tepp, while in the New Earth version, his name was Wolfgang Teppel, renamed "Von Tepp" in a comic book version of Blackhawk's life because it sounds more German.
Captain von Tepp was created by Will Eisner, Bob Powell and Chuck Cuidera and first appeared in Military Comics #1 (1941).
