Dr. Von Thorp src

Dr. Von Thorp was the creator of Bozo the Iron Man.

Dr. Von Thorp was insane, but a supremely capable robotics engineer. He built a very advanced robot, extremely strong, and durable, and sent it out marauding in New York City. A murderous crime spree followed, as the bulletproof, crashproof, fireproof monster spread havoc and terror throughout the city, and plundered at will, looting banks and stealing babies. Newspapers called this thing the "Iron Monster."

Still, Von Thorp was insane. At one point in his crazy plan he called the cops on himself, faked his own death, un-faked it, and sneaked out of his own house. Before long, Von Thorp was captured and turned over to the NYPD by a private detective, Hugh Hazzard, who had stolen and repurposed the Iron Monster.

After twelve months in prison, Von Thorp escaped, murdered his assistant, built an override device for Bozo's remote controls, and stole the incredible robot back. Hugh Hazzard repeated his earlier ploy, of riding along inside the mostly-hollow robot, but less successfully this time. Von Thorp stuck Hazzard in an escape-proof death-trap, unsupervised, and the detective escaped. Hazzard smashed the transmitter unit of von Thorp's device, and Bozo the Robot recaptured its creator. At his arraignment hearing, Von Thorp attempted to escape, and was shot dead by the police.
