Brainiac was a survivor of the Flashpoint event. Driven by a desire to becoming more, he travelled to the edge of The Source and beyond it, looking into the Multiverse to witness its history. Reaching through the Multiverse - and through time - in an effort to evolve as the Monitors had, he was mutated by the effects of "crisis" events such as the First Crisis and Infinite Crisis before re-emerging in a new reality, transformed into a god-like being. He then uncovered the location of Vanishing Point from torturing the Booster Gold of Earth-0, from which he could roam the complete history of the Multiverse, collecting doomed cities from defunct timelines, alternative futures, and parallel worlds to add to his collection.[1] These captive cities are placed on a planet that Brainiac conquered and enslaved a man known as Telos to look after the cities.

During one such venture, Brainiac traveled to an alternate timeline of Earth-0 to capture New York City but was thwarted by the timeline's respective denizens, leaving him trapped in a T-Sphere. Due to Brainiac's absence, Telos was prompted to forcing the contained cities into a battle to the death. This event nearly led to an irreversible destruction of the Multiverse. In a bid to save the Multiverse, the timer traveler Waverider freed Brainiac. Despite treated with hostility from the former prisoners of the captured cities, Brainiac sought redemption for his actions and only wished to return to being the original Brainiac of Colu. He sends the cities and their inhabitants back to their home realities and adverts the collapse of the Multiverse from the First Crisis by sending a group of heroes to stopping the Anti-Monitor. Soon after Brainiac fades away while relinquishing Telos's servitude.[2]
