Dad was going to report his boss for illegal biological weapons research. He was trying to be a hero, and because Derek Powers needed him silenced... he paid for it with his life. To avenge his death and continue his work... I became the new Batman. 
Warren McGinnis was the father of Terry McGinnis, the Batman of Neo-Gotham.
History
Warren McGinnis lived in Gotham City as a child. During a big fire that occurred in the city, the young Warren would be rescued by a vigilante that he believed to be Batman, becoming inspired by the dark knight's heroism at a young age.[1]
Warren was murdered by Powers
As an adult, Warren began working for Powers Technology, being involved in many forbidden experiments that were done in several dark sites and led by his boss Derek Powers. Warren eventually married Mary McGinnis and had two sons with her, Terry and Matt McGinnis. As Derek kept running all kinds of illegal experiments, including one involving a dangerous mutagenic nerve gas, Warren threatened to expose him, but Powers had him killed before he could do it.[2]
