Waylon Jones was once Killer Croc, a criminal afflicted with a rare medical condition that caused him to slowly become more and more reptilian. By Batman's time he has devolved into a near-mindless, gigantic monster dwelling in the Gotham Deep.

Years ago Bruce Wayne imprisoned Croc in the sewers of Old Gotham to guard the "Tomb", an underground vault built by Wayne Enterprises to hold something far worse.[1] The sewers eventually became the second level of the "Undergoth". Batman and his new sidekick Kyle the Catboi descended into his domain on the trail of some kidnapped children. As soon as they entered, Croc attacked them and dragged Batman away to devour him.[2] Kyle was able to put Croc to sleep with his magic and the two descended down to find the Tomb, where they believed the children had been taken.[1]

He was infected by plant life controlled by John Constantine, who had kidnapped the children, and sent up to the surface to attack the city. Kyle was able to convince Constantine to stop and Croc was freed from his control. He was placed in a zoo on the surface.[3]

Powers

  • Regressive Atavism: Killer Croc is afflicted with what seems to be some form of regressive atavism, meaning he has inherited some of the traits of ancestral species of the human race. Over time the primal reptilian part of his brain gains more control of his psyche. In the present day his condition is so advanced that he has become a huge reptilian monster, no longer recognisable as human.

Weaknesses

  • Diminished Intellect: As his condition has progressed, Croc's intelligence has regressed to an animalistic level.
