Synopsis for "The Hangman!"

Jonah Hex is overcome with thirst as he attempts to drink from a watering hole. He dips his hat inside the hole to obtain water but the hat is suddenly shot out from his hand. A cantankerous old man named Red Eyed Charlie tells him that the watering hole is poisoned and offers Hex a drink from his canteen. Hex explains that he was in the desert chasing after the Yellow Mask Gang when they shot his horse out from under him and left him for dead in the desert. Red Eye then announces that he is riding towards the small community of Hall Valley and invites Hex to accompany him. The two men arrive in the small town and run into a carnival like atmosphere. A woman is about to be hanged for stealing ten dollars and the crowd is there to watch the hanging for entertainment. Red Eye Charlie is outraged that the Marshall would hang someone for ten dollars and offers to pay the ten dollars to set her free. Marshall Sam Lehman refuses his money and proceeds to hang the poor woman who dies pleading for her life. Hex and Red Eye then separate for the evening. Hex heads towards the café for a meal where he observes Lehman collecting a fee from the café owner as a cut for holding the hanging event and drumming up business for his establishment. The café owner grudgingly pays the twenty dollars that the Marshall is charging because he knows that the frequent hangings bring in a lot of revenue to his small café. In the meantime, Red Eye attempts to rent a hotel room but is told that they only have rooms for ladies who get stranded in the town. He dresses up as a woman and attempts to rent a room for himself. He is eventually caught and is kicked out of the hotel by the owner. Red Eye is lying in the street as the local Marshall strolls by and tosses him in jail for public intoxication. The next morning the Yellow Mask boys ride into town and hold up the local bank. They attempt to make a getaway on their horses but one of the gang members is captured and subdued by Johan Hex. The gang member is taken to the local Marshall while Hex rides out of town to capture the rest of the Yellow Mask gang. The scene changes to the local jail where it is revealed that Marshall Lehman is working in league with the Yellow Mask gang. He provides them with information as to when to rob the bank but now he has a gang member in his jail that is threatening to reveal the Marshalls role in the robbery. The evil Lehman shoots the outlaw in the back to keep him quiet. Unfortunately for him, the crime is observed by Red Eye who had been locked up in jail. He threatens to expose the Marshall but the Lehman pistol whips him to keep him quiet. In the meantime Hex hunts down the remaining members of the Yellow Mask Gang and brings them into Hall Valley for trial. He arrives just in time to see the Marshall attempting to hang Red Eye. The Lehma claims that Red Eye is a member of the Yellow Mask gang and presents a yellow mask that Red Eye supposedly had in his possession. Hex rescues Red Eye and frees him from the hangman's noose. Red Eye then reveals that the Marshall Lehman is working in conjunction with the gang and that he shot the gang member in his custody to keep him quiet. Upon hearing this, the leader of the gang is outraged that the Marshall killed his brother. He then produces a gold shipment schedule that was given to him by the Lehman so they would know when to rob the local bank. With all the evidence mounted against him, the town hangs the local Marshall Lehman and offers the open position to Johan Hex. Hex does not say anything, he merely walks away from the carnival atmosphere.
