Synopsis for "Track of the Wolf... Claw of the Bear!"
A white wolf goes hunting for sheep in the grasslands of Wyoming. As the wolf corners it prey a different group of predators await their victim. Banker Haskins approaches in his wagon when he is accosted by a group of thieves. Haskins announces that he carries no cash but the thieves seem to know that Haskins has just collected the mortgage on Josh Morgan's place. They know that he is carrying four thousand dollars. At one point one of the gunman takes off his mask revealing him to be Josh Morgan himself. He had apparently planned on paying his debt to obtain his receipt only to set up the robbery to retrieve his cash. Once they have the cash in hand they murder Banker Haskins in cold blood. They break the wheel of Haskin's wagon and then use a set of wolf paws to maul the dead body in an effort to make it look like he was killed in a wolf attack. Several days later, a meeting of the Sheepman's association takes place. They are all concerned about the wolf menace that is killing their sheep. One of the men in attendance claims that he personally witnessed the wolf attack and kill Banker Haskins. The association then reveals that they have obtained the services of Johah Hex to track down the wolf and kill it. Hex has an excellent reputation as a tracker and the men are confident that he will eventually hunt down the wolf that has been menacing their livestock. The scene then changes to the mountains where Hex has picked up the wolf's trail. He is suspicious of the fact that wolves normally do not attack and kill humans. He also found it strange that they would not let Hex examine the banker's body. Hex continues on the trail and makes camp for the night. He is suddenly attacked by a group of Crow Indians. Hex fights them off valiantly by himself but he takes an arrow to the shoulder putting his arm out of commission. In the heat of the fight, a white wolf appears and attacks the crow Indians in a vicious manner. A trapper then appears on the rocks overhead and begins firing his rifle at the group of Indians causing them to flee. The man walks down to the scene of the fight and finds Hex badly wounded. He carries Hex back to his cabin where he pulls out the arrow in his shoulder and nurses Hex back to good health. The trapper introduces himself and Bearclaw Jackson and the wolf is apparently his pet. Hex reveals that he had been hired to track down the wolf due to the fact that it attacked the banker. Jackson scoffs at the idea and informs Hex that he witnessed the murder himself. Jackson apparently used a telescope to observe a group of men as they stopped his carriage. The four men then proceeded to kill the banker and ride off. Hex then announces that he needs Jackson and the wolf to accompany him back to town to set things straight. Jackson laughs at Hex indicating that he will not cooperate but Hex begin to throw punches and convinces Jackson to come along. Once in town, Jackson fingers Morgan and his men as the murderers. The killers panic and begin to fire at Jackson. The trapper is hit and falls to the ground. Hex immediately guns down the killers and rushes over to help his friend. Jackson is weak and dying, he asks that Hex carry him back to his cabin in the mountains. Hex complies and transports his friend back home where he passes away as the white wolf howls in the distance.
