Weird Western Tales #43 is an issue of the series Weird Western Tales (Volume 1) with a cover date of December, 1977.
Synopsis for "Feather for a Savage!"
Scalphunter undertakes a "death stalk", in order to regain his honor before the Kiowa people. He hunts a gang of bank robbers, who have killed a young Kiowa boy. He kills and scalps two of them, then fights and kills a giant grizzly, with a knife, saving the life of Sixteen Hands Horse, another Kiowa brave. Four more bank robbers show up, tie up the two braves, and get to thinking out loud on some sadistic way to kill them. They decide to set up some dynamite right near them, with a really long fuse, light it, then leave without sticking around to watch.
Scalphunter has a knife in his moccasin; he frees Sixteen Hands Horse, who flings himself onto the dynamite just before it explodes thus saving Scalphunter's life. Scalphunter then frees himself and hears Sixteen Hands Horse's last words, which are to bequeath to him his headband feather, a tribal sign of courage. Scalphunter then tracks down and kills and scalps the other four robbers. But the fourth robber's brother is the local sheriff, who does not know that his brother's a robber, but who does see him get killed by Scalphunter. There's a fight, in which Scalphunter gets kicked in the head by the sheriff's horse, and once unconscious is strung up by the ankles from a tree limb. Then the sheriff aims a rifle at him.
