Synopsis for "The Blood-Red Game, Part 1 of 3"

At the United States Air Force Longforth base, in Central Arizona, researchers Baskill, Lasalle, and Spengler use laser-based particle fields to probe an aperture. Baskill, in an exploratory rig, makes contact with something unknown. The control booth goes silent, and Baskill investigates, finding the decapitated head of Spengler. An unseen assailant then begins to feed on Baskill, while questioning him.

Two days later, Persephone (Red) drinks with Joel, who is involved with a buy-out initiated by the Halo Corporation. Persephone speaks with Hensho through her ring, confirming that the financial documents are still unsigned and still in the possession of Joel. Persephone transforms into her more vampiric form, and dismembers Joel, while feeding upon him. She is ordered to depart, but first takes a pill, and resumes her more human appearance. As she exits through the window, she is observed by two armed men, in the employ of Colonel Jackson Dane. Dane surprises Persephone in her car, and attempts to convince her to abandon her current life of corporate espionage to work alongside him. He gives her a three-month supply of pills as an incentive.

In upstate New York, the following day, Doctor Stiles argues against the possibility of resurrecting Mother One. The Dustwalker asserts that her soul has not yet moved on, and offers to show Stiles. The doctor touches his hand, and sees her soul still clinging to her body. Stiles begins the rehydration of her tissues, while her organs regenerate. They initiate a reboot of Mother One.

Twelve hours later, Dane asks Stiles about the status of Mother One, who has yet to revive. Persephone meets the Dustwalker, while Buller confronts Dane over the requests of the latter. Dane reiterates the terms of their agreement, ensuring him free reign over choosing his team, with the stipulations of the reactivation of Mother One and the supply of pills for Red, and then psionically pushes Buller into a wall.

At the team briefing, Buller recounts the attack on his base as something that could not be seen on video, slaughtered several soldiers, and then made off with a prototype weapon known as Blood Box. Dane asserts that the intruder was a vampire, violating the terms of their truce with the Vampire King. Red questions the honesty of both Buller and Dane, who insists that she has the most to gain from staying with his team. Red chooses to join in the hunt for an intruder on the base, but promises to depart following that.

Outside, a man leaps down from the back of an aircraft. Red battles with him, finally throwing a steel blade into his chest. The man transforms into a werewolf, and pins her to the ground, and reveals his detective badge.
