Whiz Comics #31 is an issue of the series Whiz Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1942.

Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "The Marvel Exterminator"

Sivana sets out to destroy Captain Marvel once and for all by inventing a ray cannon that can exterminate anything. However, to get Beautia to help him build it while he steals fuel, he tears the top off the blueprints so she won't know it's to destroy the object of her heart's desire. After leading Captain Marvel on a merry chase by using a series of successively smaller escape vehicles, Sivana finally makes it back to his hideout with the bananium oil he needs to power his machine. He blasts Marvel with it, only to find it instead makes the hero more vigorous. Looking at the plans, Marvel realizes what happened: not knowing which way was up on the plans since Sivana had torn off the top, Beautia installed its mechanisms backward. Sivana corrects this as they walk away and blasts Captain Marvel, but the ray machine only melts, since Marvel's indestructible, and in a way the machine was a marvel, so it had to destroy itself.

Synopsis for Ibis the Invincible: "The Return of Trug"

Trug, the black magician, reveals himself to Ibis' ward, Tommy. He claims to be the boy's long-lost father, and that Ibis is a corrupt man trying to exploit Tommy. A visit to a fortuneteller (actually in the employ of Trug) seems to confirm this story, and to help Tommy pass his final exams, Trug gives him a magical imp in a bottle that will answer any question asked of it without fail. This comes back to bite him when Ibis confronts the imp, and when Tommy errantly asks if Trug is really his father, it truthfully replies that was all a fabrication. When they confront Trug, he wishes he was as big as his courage, and Ibis magically grants his wish, turning Trug only a few inches tall. Tommy goes on to pass his exams and enlist in the air force.
